It’s been awhile since I’ve done the Spotlights on the Vampire Knits designers, and you haven’t met a few of them, so today I’m introducing you to Abi Horsfall!
How long have you been knitting and how’d you get started?
I have been knitting since I was a child, I remember my mother helping me knit some pieces for a diorama I had to make in 4th grade.
How did you start designing?
I started designing a couple of years ago when I got tired of not being able to find patterns I wanted – either they didn’t have the right features, or they weren’t at the right gauge, or I was just tired of searching and not finding something specific. Designing lets me knit what I want, when I want, with minimal fuss 🙂
What was your first design?
I designed a longies-and-skirty pattern, Object of My Affection, in 2006, although it was only recently published.
What did you design for Vampire Knits? What inspired you?
I designed the Wolf Hat, which was inspired by my love of knitting hats (and werewolves!). Hats are a fun way to add a little flair to your wardrobe with minimal effort.
Who’s your favorite vampire, or what’s your favorite vampire story?
I’m a big fan of most of the YA vampire novels that are out these days (Vampire Academy, Twilight, Morganville Vampires), but I have a soft spot for Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and fond memories of Christopher Pike’s The Last Vampire series from my childhood.
