Designer Spotlight – Marilee Norris

Today, let’s meet Marilee Norris, who is also contributing some amazing projects to the fairy tale book!

How long have you been knitting and how’d you get started?

I’ve been knitting for about 6 years now. I started knitting as part of a challenge to myself. All my sisters knitted when we were kids, but I was the odd one out, the left-handed one. My mom tried and tried to teach me, but my backwards brain just couldn’t make sense of it. As an adult I had managed to teach myself crochet, so I thought I’d give knitting a try. And it’s easy! I don’t know what it was that my child self couldn’t understand about it. But I’m so glad I gave it a shot. I couldn’t imagine my life without knitting in it now.

How did you start designing?

I’ve been designing pretty much since I started knitting. When I think about the possibilities that a ball of yarn and a pair of knitting needles hold my little heart just goes pitter-patter with excitement.

What was your first design?

It was a simple little dishcloth. I designed the lace part of it all by myself and was so proud.

What did you design for Vampire Knits?  What inspired you?

I designed the Descent into Darkness wrap, and the Vampire Tote.  I was inspired by my love for pretty much all things fantasy!

Who’s your favorite vampire, or what’s your favorite vampire story?

Honestly? I think Edward Cullen is my favorite Vampire.  He’s like a big piece of cotton candy that just melts in your mouth  with the simultaneous potential of sucking out all your blood and making you one of his own.  My favorite vampire story, though, is the classic Dracula by Bram Stoker.
