And the winner is….

This afternoon I printed all the replies/entries, cut them, folded them, and put them in my fondue pot. ๐Ÿ˜€

My daughter swirled them around and chose a winner.

And the winner is…

If this is you, please contact me and I will get your address.

Thank you!!!

Spotlight on Siren Shawl – Once Upon A Knit

The second pattern I’m going to spotlight is the Siren Shawl. It’s in the “Prince and Princesses” chapter and inspired by the Little Mermaid.

In the original Hans Christian Andersen tale, the Little Mermaid’s fate is to become foam on the sea. This gorgeous shawl is knit up in a beautiful multi-hued blue-green yarn made by Madelinetosh, and knit up to look like seaweed on the ocean waves.

Cassie Castillo has designed a truly gorgeous, timeless piece you’ll want to add to your knitting queue!

Once Upon A Knit Giveaway!

Hello knitting friends! I hope this Thursday finds you well. I’m happy to announce that I’m having a giveaway! I’ll be giving away a copy of Once Upon A Knit.ย I’ll give everyone til next Thursday to enter. All you have to do to enter is comment below with your name and your favorite fairy tale character. I’ll draw a name at random and the winner will get a copy of the book (signed, if you like). If the response is overwhelming, perhaps I’ll giveaway two!

This isn’t all the projects, but at least half. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck!!

Now that the book has been out for a whole week, let’s start looking at the designs a bit more carefully.

Let’s start with the Ballerina Fairy Tutu & Wand.

I was inspired to make a tutu pattern after spending many hours at my daughters’ dance studio. The littlest girls in the preschool class are allowed (and encouraged) to bring skirts or tutus. They do the class in just leotard and tights and then for the last 5 minutes they put on their tutus and dance around like crazy little fairies. I love it!

The yarn I used for the top of the wand and the ruffles in the skirt is Crystal Palace Tutu.ย ย It’s knit through the top of it, shown here:

Because the sections of yarn are so wide (almost 1″), the Tutu ruffles up nicely. The base yarn (Knitpicks Gloss) is really soft and it’s a quick and easy knit. Perfect for any girl who loves to wear something with a little extra “umph.”

I think maybe I’ll work on a doll-sized version of this. If I do, I’ll make sure to post it, like I did the Werewolf Hat.

One Day More

Well, folks, tomorrow is the day that Once Upon A Knit is on shelves. I hope everyone is as pleased with it as I am. I will most likely be posting notes about certain projects in the coming days and weeks in order for everyone to get the most out of knitting them.

The only designer left to sneak peek is me.

I’m not including the cover piece, as everyone’s already seen it.

Hope everyone’s having a great Monday!
